Patty G., Sacramento, CA

(from letter to Assemblymember Dave Jones) I am writing this letter to you in earnest regarding Senate Bill 201 (the raw milk bill) and its importance to me, my family and the almost twenty other families that I am representing.

I had my yearly physical last Wednesday (June 18) and hoped my doctor would give me her stamp of approval - a healthy report.  (My doctor is Dr. Li Li located at Dr. Dawei Zheng’s Freeport Boulevard office.)  My doctor’s office not only does the usual routine check, but most often includes an EKG and a Bone Density test with the package.  It was good to hear that I am perfectly healthy, but the most exciting news for me was that the bone density test I took showed that my bone density had increased since my last physical, which was only a year ago!!  I was thrilled to hear that, especially at my age of 54!  Dr. Li showed me the results of the test and compared them to last year’s results.  *(I have included a chart below that shows both scores from my last two physicals.)

She asked me if I had been taking calcium tablets.  I said I hadn’t, but that I had begun drinking raw milk daily for the past few years.  At that point, her mouth dropped.  (I believe this is the first time she has ever heard any of her patients say this.)  I told her that I buy my raw milk here in Sacramento from a raw milk dairy located in Fresno, which is sold throughout California in many grocery stores.  To me, the results of the bone density test prove that raw milk is not only crucial for the health of our children, but for older citizens whose bone density is generally decreasing year by year.  Because of this reason, I URGE you to, please support the passing of SB 201.

Bone Density Test Results:
03/27/07 T-Score:  -0.4 and Z-Score:  0.1 0
6/18/08 T-Score: +0.4 and Z-Score:  1.0
